Class Trip to Highclere Castle Egyptian Exhibition

on Wednesday, 28 March 2018. Posted in Fir Class

As part of our topic on the Ancient Egyptians we went on a trip to Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey!) the ancestral home of the Carnarvon family.

After discovering the tomb of Tutankhamun in the 1920's, Lord Carnarvon brought a lot of the treasures home.  Unfortunately his widow had to sell a lot of it when he died, but in the 1980's the family found hidden stashes of all sorts of goodies.  For our day, we looked around the castle, visited the exhibition in the cellars and even walked around a reconstruction of part of the tomb by candlelight.  We also got to dress up as pharaohs. It was a fabulous day!
