Science Week

Science week was in June and we enjoyed a busy week of activities, investigations, workshops, visitors and a whole school trip to Marwell Zoo. Our theme was All Living Things and we started off with a visit from a bee enthusiast who brought in a glass sided hive so that the children could see the queen and all the workers.

Meanwhile two ecology students from Fordingbridge came and talked about the wildlife of the New Forest. Throughout the day the children were involved in activities investigating identification, wildlife tracking and making a pin hole viewer.

The whole school spent a busy day at Marwell Zoo, looking at many favourite animals, both on land, in the air and on water. The older children learnt more about habitats and adaptation at the zoo’s educational workshop and the younger ones kept track of snakes, creepy crawlies and crocodiles in the Tropical House. What a great day out and the sun shined too!

During the week some of our parents shared their knowledge and work skills with the children. We had a yeast investigation going on and wildlife tracking out on the top field. Bones, tendons and ligaments were explored, alongside hearts and lungs and the work of an anaesthetist
