Book Week 2016
This year, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Roald Dahl, our Book Week was full of Roald Dahl Characters.
When everyone arrived in school on the Monday morning they were amazed to see the BFG (Big Friendly Giant) in our school hall and that our library had been transformed into the Inventing Room from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Each class had one of Roald Dahl’s books as a focus for the week which they explored in great depth. On the Wednesday the whole school worked in colour teams and took part in different workshops based on the books. In Fir classroom the children created their own giant sweets, in Ash classroom the children created creatures that James never discovered in the Giant Peach. The focus in Elm classroom was different games based on some of the stories and then in Oak classroom the children filled their own dream bottles, just like the BFG. For the Thursday dress-up there were some amazing costumes from Oompa-Loompas to Willy Wonka (as well as the occasional wizard and Wally), children also had the opportunity to guess the different characters from the teachers’ clues. With the usual Drop Everything And Read and paired reading opportunities, it was a fantastic week in which the joy of stories was embraced by all members of our school.
