2.    Link with Bangladesh
Mrs Cockrean shared some newspaper reports about schools and learning in Bangladesh. A while ago our school had a competition to design labels for Collecting Tins for the Valerie Taylor Trust to raise funds for a new generator. Valerie Taylor works in Bangladesh and is visiting the Chalke Valley next month. We discussed this work and the newspaper reports about schools and learning in Bangladesh and decided we should support children’s Right to Learn. Mrs Cockrean is going to invite Valerie Taylor into school to talk to the whole school and to have a meeting with the Rights Respecting Group to discuss how we could support children’s Right to Learn in Bangladesh.
Action: Mrs Cockrean to invite Valerie Taylor into school. We also discussed different fund raising ideas. Matthew Sims suggested that, if they need equipment, we could collect rulers, pencils, paper etc for Valerie to take back with her. These would be light and not take up too much space. We decided that this was a very good idea and would discuss it with Valerie.

3.    School focus
As we are thinking about the Right to Learn for children in Bangladesh we decided it would be a good idea to discuss the Right to Learn in our own schools and how we respect each other’s right and support each other’s right to learn
Action: Rights Respecting Representatives to ask classes for thoughts and ideas about our Right to Learn

4.    Lunch times
Our discussion moved on to outside the classroom. Pearl remembered that we were going to have a meeting with the lunch time staff, but this hadn’t happened yet. Mrs cockrean explained that this had not been possible last term however agreed it was important and she would organise a meeting of the Rights Respecting Group and lunchtime staff.
Action: Mrs Cockrean to organise meeting with Lunch time staff Rights Respecting Representatives to ask classes about lunchtimes and what should go in a lunchtime  charter

5.    Rights Respecting Award
Mrs Cockrean shared an email from Will Jackson which explained that we were nearly ready to apply for the Recognition of Commitment Certificate. All we need to do is for the group to write an explanation of what a Rights Respecting School is and what we are doing to go in the newsletter and on the website.
Action: Rights Respecting Representatives to write article for newsletter/website
