School Council Group

Present: Jonty Shaw, Milo Keffore, Samuel O’Boyle, Daniel Tranter, Adam Cowlam, Abi Wareham, Jacob Sainsbury, Mrs Cockrean

1.    Minutes of last meeting:

  • Playhouse/Garage has been ordered and is expected to arrive this half term. When it has arrived the school council will decide what furniture to put in it and how or organise safe and fair use of it
  • New tennis balls have been good but some more needed - Mrs Cockrean to purchase some more tennis balls
  • Mr Wyatt will order some new Kwik Cricket equipment. We had thought about using supermarket vouchers but this will take too long - Mr Wyatt to purchase new Kwik cricket set
  • Mrs Cockrean still needs to investigate plaque for tree donated by the birds - Mrs Cockrean to investigate plaque

2.    School Library:
Mrs Cockrean explained that this term we are focusing on our school library. There are seven stages to achieving our aim of ‘creating an inspiring area to encourage a love of books and to provide a quiet learning space.’

  • School Council reps to share project details
  • School Council reps to ask classes for some fundraising ideas – with a library link/theme if possible. The School Council suggested holding a cake sale with a library theme e.g. decorated with book worms
  • School Council reps to ask everyone to think about how we would like our ‘new’ library decorated. Please could children think about themes or individual ideas for the decorations. Any ideas should be given to the School Council Reps who will bring them to our next meeting

3.    AOB

  • Jonty and Milo explained that the footballs are rather flat and make playing difficult. They appreciate that if they are pumped up too hard they will hurt but they are willing to take responsibility for pumping up the balls on Monday morning playtime. They will ensure that they are pumped up enough to play but not too hard so they might hurt someone.
  • Jonty suggested an art competition for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with the winners being published in the Coombe Bissett & Homington Express. Mrs Cockrean will discuss this with the teachers to make sure there isn’t too much going on and with Westley to check that he is happy to publish the winners.
